Electric vehicles are more affordable and available than ever in Corona, and it’s easy to see why! EVs offer powerful performance specs, a sporty ride, and next-generation technology inside and out. They’re also excellent for the environment and often come with eligibility for federal and state tax incentives. BMW currently offers three fully-electric vehicles—the iX, i4, and i7–as well as four plug-in hybrids. Electric vehicles have fewer moving parts than their gasoline-powered counterparts since they lack an internal combustion engine. This leads a lot of drivers to think that they don’t have to bring their EV in for regular maintenance the way they would for a gas-powered car. While EVs don’t require as much maintenance as gas-powered cars—for example, you never have to come in for an oil change—they definitely do still need regular service to keep them in top condition. How to Maintain an Electric Vehicle

It’s true that there are a lot of regular services that EV drivers don’t have to worry about. Because there’s no internal combustion engine, electric vehicles don’t have to undergo services like oil changes, spark plug replacements, cooling system flushes, and drive belt replacements. However, EVs still have a lot of critical parts that need taking care of, such as brakes, tires, a battery, a transmission, and fluids such as coolant and windshield washer fluid. 

Here’s a general overview of the services that an EV in Riverside will require over its lifetime:

  • Tire rotation
  • Cabin air filter replacement
  • Wiper blade replacement
  • Fluid replacement – coolant, transmission fluid, washer fluid, etc.
  • Battery inspection
  • Tire pressure inspection
  • Suspension and steering inspection

EV Service Schedule

One of the many benefits of driving an EV is that you don’t have to come in for routine service as often. While gasoline-powered cars need maintenance every 3,000-7,500 miles, BMW EVs generally operate on intervals of 20,000 miles, or around two years of drive time.
