If you’re like many Corona drivers, you may be wondering, “How often should you rotate your tires?” Usually, the interval for tire rotation is 5,000 to 7,500 miles. Although this is a good general rule to keep in mind, it may or may not apply to your vehicle. You should always double-check your owner’s manual and/or consult a service technician at our tire center who’s familiar with BMW maintenance. To learn more about when to rotate tires and the importance of this service, read on!
FWD & RWD Tire Rotation Pattern
If you drive a front- or rear-wheel drive vehicle, it simply means that the engine power is directed to the front or rear wheels, respectively. In either case, the brunt of the work is placed on one axle, so it’s important to rotate the tires to prevent excess wear. For FWD and RWD vehicles, regular tire rotation should be performed as follows:
- FWD Tire Rotation: Flip sides when moving the rear tires to the front. For example, the rear right tire will be placed on the front left. When moving the front tires to the rear, place them on the same side.
- RWD Tire Rotation: You’ll invert the process above. When moving the front tires to the back, flip sides. When moving the rear tires forward, keep them on the same side.
AWD Tire Rotation Pattern
How many miles to rotate tires changes if you drive an all-wheel drive vehicle. AWD engages all tires at different points throughout the drive, so one tire can wear more quickly than the other. In general, experts recommend performing a tire rotation on an AWD vehicle every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Again, be sure to check your owner’s manual for a recommended rotation interval. If you’ve traveled over 5,000 miles and haven’t had a tire rotation yet, schedule tire service at BMW of Murrieta today!
Importance of Regularly Rotating Tires
Whether you drive an all-wheel drive or rear- or front-wheel drive vehicle, routine tire rotation is a must. Tire rotation helps preserve each tire’s tread depth for as long as possible, ensuring your investment in a new tire is maximized. Beyond that, tire rotation offers the following benefits for your car:
- Stronger traction on Riverside roads
- Quieter ride
- Reduced mechanical stress on the drivetrain
Of course, properly caring for your tires doesn’t mean they’ll last for years and years. Eventually, all tires, even the full-size spare, will need to be replaced. This is where our tire technicians come in! We can help you find the correct tires for your BMW model and trim level, for a smooth and efficient ride.
